Pastoral Care Class

Satisfy a new interest, an old curiosity, or as a refresher. All are welcome!

The Pastoral Care Class will take place six Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm on zoom, starting September 14th, 2021. (No class on Tuesday 9/22)

Please email Cindy Dopp to register. You are welcome to attend all or just the evenings you are available. I have left books in Baxter Hall for participants to take home for reference. We will be basing some of the course on these books. Two are specifically for caregiving retreats.

Questions? email Cindy@stmarks.net.

Description:

Most churches, including Saint Mark’s, have valued traditions of pastoral care whereby members of the faith community are sustained by others in times of difficulty, immediate need, or illness. Compassionate outreach from others can often be a source of healing and encouragement. We often think of pastoral care as only the province of the clergy but increasingly the laity volunteers to extend the reach of pastoral care beyond what the clergy can do alone. This course will explore how parishioners can be part of the pastoral care process and also delve more deeply into who we want to be as a community that values and nurtures pastoral care.
