Hearing the Code Talkers: Preparing to Engage with Navajo Veterans and Their Communities

ZOOM class Tuesdays, October 4, 11, 18, and 25

As part of St. Mark’s new relationship with the Navajoland community served by our former seminarian, the Rev. Joe Hubbard, the steering group is organizing a series of events to commemorate the Navajos’ history of military service.

Kicking this off will be a four-session discussion of the book Code Talker: The First and Only Memoir by One of the Original Navajo Code Talkers of WWII, by Chester Nez.

Not just a war story, the book offers insights into the Indian Affairs school system and economic policies, Navajo culture and spirituality, and other important topics. The class will be co-led by Joe Hubbard, Steve Dalzell, and other participants in the Navajoland initiative. This will be a ZOOM class Tuesdays, October 4, 11, 18, and 25, from 6–7 p.m.
