A Life of Challenging Israel’s Treatment of Palestine

Wed 9/14 | 7-9 pm, St. John’s Episcopal Church, Bethesda

The Rev. Don Wagner will speak on a Life of Challenging Israel’s Treatment of Palestine on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 7-9 pm, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bethesda.

Author of the just-published memoir “Glory to God in the Lowest: Journeys to an Unholy Land,” Rev. Wagner will speak about his 50 years of experience as a Christian leader and scholar challenging Israel’s treatment of Palestinians. He also tells about his turning away from a conservative, fundamentalist, Zionist background when he discovered the evils of racism and war— and embracing Liberation Theology and the Palestinian struggle.

The Rev. Sari Ateek, rector of St. John’s, will moderate the discussion. He was born and raised in Jerusalem, the son of Rev. Naim Ateek, founder of the Sabeel Center. St. John’s has an active Holy Land Committee, and Sari has led many pilgrimage/witness trips to the Holy Land.
