Amendments to the Bylaws for Vote at the Annual Meeting

Get details about the proposed amendments so you are ready to vote.

On January 3, the Vestry unanimously proposed four amendments to the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Bylaws for consideration at this year’s annual meeting, which will take place on March 5 beginning at 11:30 am. According to Section 701 of the Bylaws, approval from two-thirds of the members voting at the meeting is required to pass the amendments.

Most of the proposed amendments would give the parish more flexibility in governing itself. Specifically, the amendments would:

  1. Allow the Vestry to set the annual meeting between January 1 and March 31 (as opposed to the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Sunday in Lent).
  2. Allow for virtual or hybrid parish meetings.
  3. Change the title of “Register” to “Clerk” (for greater transparency and consistency with Episcopal Church/Diocesan nomenclature).
  4. Allow the bylaws to be amended at special parish meetings (for greater flexibility).
